The 30-party opposition alliance led by UCPN (Maoist) is demonstrating its ‘show of strength’ at Khulamanch in order to pile pressure on the ruling parties to give up the voting process adopted at Constituent Assembly (CA) and comprehend with the past agreements to draft the constitution through consensus.
The oppositions took out rallies from various parts of the Caital and converged at Khulamanch where top opposition leaders will then address the assembly.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal led a rally from Kamladi, senior leader Baburam Bhattarai from Kalanki while leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Barsha Man Pun led the rally respectively from Tinkune and Lagankhel.
Baneshwor tense after clash
Meanwhile, tension ran high on New Baneshwor when police clashed with the protestors at New Baneshwor when the rally reached Constituent Assembly building at New Baneshwor. Police baton charged the rally and also fired over a dozen rounds of tear gas at the protestors. Cases of injuries to both sides have been reported.
